Yakimochi (grilled rice cake)

My brother sends me blocks of mochi packaged individually every year as part of Christmas & New Year's gifts. Traditionally, we eat mochi in a soy sauce based soup (in my region!) on New Year's day and on 3 consecutive days at home. I love the mochi soup but grilled mochi is also tasty and easy to fix. I put my mochi in a toster overn and cook 7-8 minutes until it puffs up. Then I dipp the mochi (very hot!) in soy sauce and wrap it with a sliced cheddar cheese in a dried seaweed. Try yakimochi! I bet you will like it!
